Founded by Gary Adams in 1979, TaylorMade got its first PGA Tour win two years later when Ron Streck won the 1981 Houston Open. He used a club nicknamed the ‘Pittsburgh Persimmon’ – so called because of its steel construction – before Jim Simons did likewise to win the 1982 Bing Crosby National Pro-Am. By 1985, more PGA and LPGA pros used TaylorMade than any other make of driver.
