Get ready for the wildest week of the PGA Tour season.
The Waste Management Phoenix Open is back and fans will descend on TPC Scottsdale in their thousands for the biggest party in golf.
Of course, many will rush to the stadium 16th hole, which has an atmosphere more akin to a frenzied frat party than a short par-3. Expect more mayhem again this year with the final round being played on Super Bowl Sunday.
This year, however, the tournament does not have signature status like it did in 2023, where a $20million prize fund was up for grabs.
• PGA Tour accused of ‘collusion’ with ‘shady’ sponsors exemptions
• Topless campaigners make plea for PGA Tour star
The tournament in Arizona was not selected as one of the eight ‘Signature Events’ on the PGA Tour’s reimagined schedule in 2024, with a prize purse this time round of nearly $9million.
But fans will still be able to see some of the world’s best golfers, with five of the top 10 in the world rankings competing for the title.
Scottie Scheffler defended his Phoenix Open title with a two-shot victory over Canadian Nick Taylor in 2023, and is back to make it three-in-a-row this year.
Scheffler’s American Ryder Cup teammates Xander Schauffele, Max Homa, Wyndham Clark, Rickie Fowler and Justin Thomas are all in the field trying to stop him, but FedEx Cup champion Viktor Hovland is a late withdrawal.

The bunkered bet
Sahith Theegala 40/1
Theegala could be the man to end Scheffler’s Scottsdale dominance this week. The American has a T3 finish here in 2022 and backed up a runner-up finish at the Sentry last month with a solid T20 at Pebble Beach.
