Adrian Meronk was a top talent in Europe before heading to LIV Golf, so who is his coach?

Born in 1993, Meronk turned pro in 2016 and began to rise through the ranks in Europe as a highly exciting prospect.

After a stint on the Challenge Tour, he moved into the DP World Tour before winning four times and becoming the first Polish golfer to win on the circuit.

Meronk has relied on his swing coach to better his game, as he now plies his trade on LIV Golf as a member of Cleeks GC.

So, here’s a bit more about the man behind Meronk’s action.

• Who is Xander Schauffele’s coach?

• Who is Jon Rahm’s caddie?

Up until April 2024, Adrian Meronk’s coach was a Welshman named Matthew Tipper. Originally from Porthcawl in South Wales, Tipper has established himself as one of golf’s most sought after short game specialists.

First starting as an overseas seasonal professional at Nad Al Sheba in Dubai, Tipper went onto work in Lisbon two years later before a stint in China.

• Who is Scottie Scheffler’s coach?

• Who is Tony Finau’s caddie?

He started working with Meronk in 2010, when Meronk was just 16-years-old.

Meronk and Tipper travelled the world together, before a surprise split just seven events into his LIV Golf career.

“After 14 years sometimes things just come to an end,” Tipper wrote on social media. “Last week Adrian decided he wanted to go a new way and I have to respect that decision. I’m proud of everything we achieved together.

“I knew in 2010 he was a great talent and he has only gone to prove that all over the world. To Pietro Gobinho and Stuart Beck, thank you for being amazing caddies when Adrian needed you. Your support and co-operation has been invaluable and I thank you both.”

Meronk now works with renowned coach David Phillips an Englishman who has devoted the past 27 years to becoming one of the best in the world.

As a PGA professional, Phillips has applied sports performance, health, fitness and wellness to golf, working with numerous players across the top tours – including Jon Rahm and David Puig.

Located in Oceanside, California, he is a co-founder of the Titleist Performance Institute (TPI).

According to its website, TPI is the ‘world’s leading educational organisation dedicated to the study of how the human body functions in relation to the golf swing’.

It could be Meronk’s LIV Golf relations that set up the partnership and, at the 2024 Open, the Pole said he “needed something fresh”.

“It’s been a tough year for me, all of the changes, not only tour changes but coach,” he said at Royal Troon.

“I changed coach, and kind of a different approach to my game. I think I needed just some time to settle, and I think finally I can see some good signs that my game and myself are settling finally.”

Speaking of the changes he is working on, Meronk added: “It’s a couple small subtle changes because you can’t make a lot of big changes during mid-season.

“But it’s just been on my mind. I wasn’t playing freely, especially the Masters and U.S. Open, I wasn’t playing freely. PGA I actually didn’t play that badly. It just didn’t go my way.

“Just the mind wasn’t there, like wasn’t present in the moment, just thinking about swing and technique.”

Meronk made just his fourth cut in a major championship at The Open, finishing T40.
