Bulgaria is fast becoming a golfing holiday haven with the Cape Kaliakra destination, 45 minutes north of the city of Varna, currently the best-selling area with three signature courses just a stone’s throw away from one another.

The Ian Woosnam-designed Lighthouse Golf & Spa Resort is adjacent to the first of two Gary Player-designed courses, BlackSeaRama, while his other course, Thracian Cliffs, put Bulgaria on the world golf tourism map by hosting the Volvo World Match Play in 2013.

“It’s like Pebble Beach on steroids,” remarked Graeme McDowell after triumphing over Thongchai Jaidee in the final and, as a result of the increased coverage, the following year saw more than 10,000 golfers choosing the Black Sea coast for their annual golf vacation.

A significantly increased number visited Bulgaria this year and that number is likely to rise even further moving into 2016, with some incredible offers that make the country an ideal destination for a fantastic, value-for-money trip.

This is highlighted in the fact that a pint of top, local beer would cost you as little as €1 in some of the small restaurants around, while a good dinner with drinks will barely register more than €12-€15 per person.

A variety of accommodation options are available – from a hotel or villa directly on the golf course or small boutique hotels on the marina road in the close town of Balchik. And for lovers of nightlife, the hotels in Golden Sands, the largest beach vacation resort on the northern coast, or Varna, the second largest city in Bulgaria, give many options to consider.
