A date has been set for the grand opening of Pinehurst Resorts newest golf course.

It has announced that the highly anticipated No. 10 course is set to open on April 3, 2024.

The Tom Doak design, which began construction in January, will be the first golf course the historic resort has unveiled in almost 30 years.

It will open just a few months before the site hosts the 124th U.S. Open on the No. 2 course, the fourth time Pinehurst will do so.

Pinehurst Resort CEO Bob Dedman Jr said: “We’re delighted to have a date to begin presenting this incredible design by Tom Doak to our guests.

“April 3 will not only be another great day in Pinehurst’s history, but for our future as well.”

The resort, which has been hailed as the ‘Cradle of American Golf’, has hosted several national and major championships.

And the resort suggests that the new No. 10 course will be unlike any other at the North Carolina site.

While it is the first new course in nearly three decades, it has been centuries in the making.

Doak’s design encompasses everything that is natural to North Carolina Sandhills golf, and the result is a course with more than 75 feet of elevation change.

He said: “No. 10 starts out gentle, then it starts going into the old quarry works where it gets downright crazy for a little bit, then the course gets up on the hill and there’s a beautiful, sweeping view.

“All of the holes coming in are challenging, even when you move down into the gentler terrain. It’s a dramatic golf course; more than I originally thought.”

The eighth hole, which is laid out over some of the former quarry land, is particularly striking.

It plays over a huge dune and features extraordinary fairway contouring.

Down the stretch, the par-3 17th hole is one that will garner plenty of appeal. The tee shot over water will go into a bowl-like green.

Tom Pashley, President of Pinehurst Resort, added: “We’re excited to show off Tom Doak’s masterful interpretation of Pinehurst golf.

“From the initial routing of Pinehurst No. 10 to the shaping and design process, Doak and his associates excelled in all regards.

“Our very high expectations were exceeded, and we can’t wait for everyone to see it.”

Golfers looking to be among the first to experience playing No. 10 can now reserve their stay. More information on golf packages can be found at Pinehurst.com.
