Like Woosnam, Faldo also enjoyed most of his success after the 1987 Ryder Cup. Faldo had 14 wins on the two main tours, including the 1987 Open, prior to the match, but afterwards stepped up his game in the majors with another five, helping him to reach world No.1 on four separate occasions – the longest spell 81 weeks following his 1992 Open win. He also won another 15 times on the two main tours.
