Dangerfield became famous for his catchphrase “I don’t get no respect” and, for much of his early career, that appeared to be the case, at least as far as movies went. Despite his popularity as a guest on late-night TV talk shows throughout the sixties and seventies and his headline residency on the Las Vegas casino circuit, he struggled to crack Hollywood. Caddyshack changed all that. Off the back of that, he went on to star in Easy Money and Back To School before turning in an accomplished, serious performance as an abusive father in 1994 film Natural Born Killers. He passed away in 2004 due to complications following heart valve surgery.
