By the time he started filming Caddyshack, Chase was already a household name in the US thanks to his recurring role in the cast of Saturday Night Live. Following Caddyshack, he became an even bigger star, appearing in a string of smash-hit 80s comedies, such as the National Lampoon’s Vacation films, Fletch, Spies Like Us and Three Amigos.  At the height of his fame, he was one of Hollywood’s highest-paid actors, commanding upwards of $7m per movie. His career nosedived somewhat in the early 90s after a slew of box office flops and he disappeared largely from public eye before returning to play Pierce Hawthorne on the critically-acclaimed American TV comedy Community from 2009 until 2014.
