Dan Walker, an award-winning journalist and broadcaster, is set to tee it up in the Legends Tour Wapp Celebrity Series event at Trump International Golf Links Aberdeen this August.

The event, which runs alongside the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship, will give Walker and other celebrities the chance to make the Wapp Celebrity Series Final, held in Mauritius in December. That place will go to the winner of this event at Trump International Golf Links Aberdeen, taking place on 23 August.

The Staysure PGA Seniors Championship  , which is being played in Aberdeen for the first time, will feature a star-studded field, such as major winners Ian Woosnam and Michael Campbell.

Walker, who is a scratch golfer and plays out of Sheffield’s Hallamshire Golf Club, the home of Matt Fitzpatrick, will compete for a share of the £100,000 prize fund for his chosen charity, Sheffield Children’s Hospital.

He’ll be joined by the likes of Gordon Strachan and Gavin Hastings over the spectacular links course.

Walker said: “I am really looking forward to getting back out on the golf course for the Wapp Celebrity Series event in Aberdeenshire. I have only heard great things about the course and so can’t wait to play it alongside a Legends Tour professional later this summer to try and qualify for the Wapp Celebrity Series Grand Final.

“I have lived in Sheffield for many years and my children have all benefited from the brilliant hospital. The quality of the wonderful staff and care is second to none, and they need support to ensure the technology and equipment matches. In 2021 I was able to help the charity after being invited to play in Mauritius – it would be great to once again help the team at the Sheffield Children’s Hospital this year.”

Phil Harrison, chief executive officer of the Legends Tour, said: “We are extremely excited to be hosting the 2023 Staysure PGA Seniors Championship event at Trump International Golf Links in Aberdeenshire. It is great also to be able to hold the final Wapp Celebrity Series event before the Grand Final as part of the week’s golf.

“With such a good field of celebrities taking part, including Dan Walker, Gordon Strachan and Mike Tindall, the event promises to be a great way to kick off the week and an exceptional day out for all making the trip.”
