Luke Donald masterminded a 16.5-11.5 victory over Zach Johnson’s beleaguered US side at Marco Simone to extend their unbeaten home run beyond 30 years.

Next, a re-energised European side will head to the New York bear pit bidding to secure what would be a famous away victory.
