There will be a fair few sore heads in Rome on Monday morning as the dust begins to settle on a famous European Ryder Cup win.

Europe were written off after their 19-9 hammering at Whistling Straits in 2021, with a period of American dominance in this contest widely predicted.

But captain Luke Donald has re-energised the European side and masterminded a famous 16.5 – 11.5 victory at Marco Simone to extend their unbeaten home record beyond 30 years.

Of course, no event in golf elicits a social media reaction quite like the Ryder Cup, and the European media team did plenty to keep fans entertained as the celebrations began with the party bus in full swing.

Chants ranged from “Europe’s On Fire, USA Is Terrified” to a rendition of I’m Gonna be (500 Miles) by the Proclaimers lead by the Scottish hero Bob MacIntyre.

And for those of you who predicted Tyrrell Hatton would be last man standing after the European night out: congratulations.

 

We’re also wondering if Hatton has borrowed a pair of MacIntyre’s pyjamas from earlier in the week…

Anyway, here’s how Twitter/X reacted to Europe’s Ryder Cup win…

One of the most viral clips from the European celebrations came from a man jumping into the water on the 16th hole after Tommy Fleetwood secured the trophy.

Here, broadcaster Dan Walker has found more footage of the same man leading fans into a thunder clap before taking another dip in the pond. Great scenes.

Brooks Koepka then had the internet on strings by getting his losing US teammates to wear his Smash GC LIV Golf merch.

And from the European fans, there was huge praise for Luke Donald and co.. for pulling off such a memorable victory after a dramatic finale at Marco Simone…
