The United States’ Ryder Cup drought on the road goes on.

A 16.5-11.5 defeat at the hands of Luke Donald’s European soil consigned Zach Johnson’s men to a seventh successive loss on this side of the Atlantic.

A 4-0 opening morning whitewash set a tone from which they were unable to recover, despite a valiant rally late on Sunday.

Questions will now need to be asked and answered. Where do they go next? Who should succeed Johnson as captain? Why do Uncle Sam’s boys struggle so badly to win away from home.
