Charley Hull and Georgia Hall are competitors on the golf course, but away from it, they’re the closest of friends.

Their connection goes so deep, Hall says, that when her English compatriot decides to hang up the clubs, she might just do the same.

Speaking to bunkered at the Aramco Team Series event in Riyadh, the pair went into a wide range of topics, with their 17-year long friendship top of the agenda.

Having come through the ranks of the English golf set-up together, Hull and Hall are now both Solheim Cup, LPGA Tour and major stars, but they agree that when one decides to call it a day, the other might do the same.

“Our time on tour, it’s going so quick,” Hall said. “Obviously it’s a long way away, but when either of us retires, I think it would be really sad if one of us did retire and the other one kept on playing.

“I think we would probably encourage each other, if one of us retired to say to the other that they should too.”

It’s a sentiment with which Hull, who is less than a month older than Hall, agrees.

“Sometimes, when Georgia is at an event and I’m not there, or vice versa, we’re like, ‘Ahh! It’s a bit lonely.’

“Even if we don’t see each other all the time at a tournament, just knowing that we’re both there, it makes a difference.

“We get to go out for dinner a lot. When we’re at a tournament, we’ll just be texting each other and then go and see each other when we can, whether that’s out for dinner or going to see the other in their room.”

Up to this point, the pair’s careers have taken similar paths, and Hall explained that if it wasn’t for the friendship, tour life would be nowhere near as enjoyable.

“It’s been about 17 years now and I think the reason we’ve stayed such good friends and stayed really close all that time is partly because we’re the same age, but we have so much in common,” said the 2018 AIG Women’s Open champion.

“We have so many similarities in our personalities, we love England so much.

“But I think most importantly, when we’re out playing, we are always looking out for each other. We know we are there for each other.

“Even if we don’t see each other every day, we always know that the other will be looking out for us.”
