Designed by world-renowned golf course architect Donald Steel, the parkland layout of Portlethen opened for play in 1989 and, in the 30 years since, has become one of the most popular in the north-east of Scotland.

The course is characterised by its high trees down the fairways, making it crucial that you keep it straight. The Findon Burn is one of many natural features and it runs across five holes on the front nine including the par-5 fourth, where the burn crosses 90 yards short of the green.

The signature hole though is the 15th, a par-4 that requires accuracy off the tee and precision with the second to avoid the Findon Burn, which guards the green. The course also has a four-bay driving range, short game facilities and a putting green near the first tee.

Course development has seen the planting of around 21,000 carefully selected trees, restoration of a drystone dyke, construction of stone bridges, new tees at several holes and a pond at the short fifth.
