DP World Tour winner Adri Arnaus believes LIV Golf rebel Sergio Garcia should ‘definitely’ become a European Ryder Cup captain.

The Spaniard is keen for the forgotten men of Team Europe to be handed another chance as he eyes up his own place in New York.

At the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, Arnaus told bunkered.co.uk: “I would love all these people that have been so important for Europe and the Ryder Cup to still be in the picture.

“Sergio is definitely one of them. If he’s not playing, then he should definitely be Ryder Cup captain at some point, and so 2025 is an opportunity.

“It might be later than that, but even the likes of Poulter, Stenson and Kaymer, these guys should be around.”

The 28-year-old, who represented Spain at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, reckons their omission was beneficial this year.

However, Arnaus argues that as the golfing landscape steadies, Europe’s historic figures should be welcomed back.

He added: “The golf world has been through a lot in the last couple of years, and it seems like it’s smoothing out.

“I feel like they’ve proven that being a bit more cautious this year was the right thing to do.

“The energy in the team is an important thing to take into consideration, and you don’t want to mix that up too much.

“But as I said, as things are calming down, they should be coming back around.”

Garcia is one of two current frontrunners for the captaincy role in 2025, alongside Luke Donald.

The Englishman masterminded the impressive win at Marco Simone last week after Henrik Stenson was sacked for joining LIV Golf.

And Donald or Garcia could be up against a Tiger Woods-led USA, as the event plays out at Bethpage black.

No matter who leads out Team Europe in two years’ time, Arnaus is dreaming of competing in it, with one playing partner in mind.

He added: “I would love to play, and to be able to partner up with Jon (Rahm), too, would be amazing in those fourball and foursomes matches.

“Making that team would be a dream come true for me, so now this one is done, the next Ryder Cup is a new opportunity and one I want to make.”
