Performance tracking experts Shot Scope have joined forces with bunkered to become the golf media brand’s first official data partner. 

bunkered will now benefit from the Edinburgh-based performance tracking company’s extensive library of golf data and insight, which is collated from over 250 million golf shots used by over 150,000 golfers across 160 countries.  

Shot Scope Technologies was founded in 2014 and consists of technology experts, golfers, and a former Walker Cup player with the goal of improving the way golfers collect and analyse statistics about their game. 

Using Shot Scope’s Performance Tracking devices – such as the brand new X5 that launched last week – the average golfer improves their handicap by 4.1 shots.

The company also recently unveiled its new Shot Scope Academy, a first-of-its-kind on-course tracking system that uses advanced technology to create unlimited connectivity between golfers and coaches. The new system enables coaches to see first-hand the results of every shot hit on each hole during the round, giving them access to over 100 statistics on the golfer’s game. These include the club used, the end location of the shot, and the hole score. 

bunkered will now tap in to Shot Scope’s extensive library of data points as it looks to bring fact-based tuition and buying advice to its audience, both in print and online.

Gear editor James Tait and staff writer Lewis Fraser will also use Shot Scope products extensively throughout 2023 and report back on their findings across all platforms. 

“The game of golf has become more data-focused and Shot Scope are pioneers on that front,” said Bryce Ritchie, editor of bunkered. “The brand’s new Academy is a first-of-its-kind in the industry and we will be exploring what it has to offer throughout the year.”

Shot Scope has a variety of products from the G3 GPS watch and H4 GPS handheld to the advanced – and brand new – X5 watch which includes automatic shot tracking and strokes gained analytics. 

“It is our belief that the most powerful asset for a golfer is total knowledge about their game,” said Shot Scope CEO David Hunter. “Previously, detailed round data and strokes gained information was reserved exclusively for professionals competing on television. However, with our advanced shot tracking capabilities, we are able to deliver that experience to club golfers every time they play.”

The brand, which recently celebrated 200 issues, has the most engaged Facebook audience of any golf media brand in the UK and the No.1 golf media podcast in the UK, which is also multi award-winning.
