We are firmly in the run-up to the first major of the year, and that means an exciting run of PGA Tour events.

The Waste Management Phoenix Open was the first full-field elevated event on the PGA Tour’s 2023 season, and now we have the Genesis Invitational to look forward to, another in the line of $20,000,000 purse events. That means there’s the same top names playing, and, hopefully, the same excitement levels as last week.

There’s several reasons this event stands out on the calendar, but this year, one of those reasons counts for much more than the others, and that is the tournament host, Tiger Woods.

The 15-time major champion will be teeing it up for the first time since the 150th Open, and for the first time in a regular PGA Tour event since the 2020 ZOZO Championship. No matter how he plays, Tiger will be the big story this week.

The course itself is another big draw. It’s often voted as a favourite among PGA Tour players, and is well known for the drivable par-4 10th, which often causes entertaining levels of carnage. It’s also home to the easiest par-5 on the PGA Tour, the opening hole at Riviera CC.

Last year, Collin Morikawa and Cameron Young finished two shots behind the eventual winner Joaquinn Niemann.

The event has been a fixture in some form since the 1920s, but has been a regular at Riviera since the ‘70s. It’s gone through various guises, including the Los Angeles Open and the Northern Trust Open.

Here’s all the details you need to know.

Tiger Woods 175/1

Do we actually think he’ll win? Probably not. However, if he does, and you back someone else, then you’ll be kicking yourself. If you want a sensible option then look elsewhere, but we’re going with Tiger this week.
