The ink is still drying on Jon Rahm’s $450million contract but speculation over who will be next to join the Spaniard in making the move to LIV Golf continues to gather pace.

Reigning Masters champion Rahm signed with the Saudi-funded golf league on Thursday, putting an end to weeks of speculation over his future.

The first order of business for the 29-year-old will be building out his franchise, which will include adding three players to his team.

According to the social media rumour mill, one of those could be Tony Finau.

The six-time PGA Tour winner is a close friend of Rahm’s. Both are based in Scottsdale and are members of the exclusive Silverleaf Golf Club, where they regularly play practice rounds together.

Speaking after the second round of this week’s Grant Thornton Invitational – where he is playing alongside LPGA superstar Nelly Korda – Finau was asked about the prospect of him joining Rahm on the LIV Golf League, and his answer won’t have done much to settle nerves at the PGA Tour’s Ponte Vedra Beach HQ.

Asked by Sports Illustrated if he had a response to his name being linked with the Greg Norman-fronted circuit, Finau replied: “No, not yet. I haven’t let anything marinate other than just playing right now.”

Pressed for his thoughts on Rahm’s money-spinning switch, he added: “I think he made the best decision that he felt was right for his family and himself. I’m happy for him.”

The 2024 LIV Golf League season gets under way from February 2-4 at Mayakoba in Mexico, whilst the PGA Tour opens its 2024 campaign with The Sentry, taking place in Hawaii from January 4-7.
