The AIG Women’s Open promises to have one of the strongest fields in recent memory – but which course will stage the major championship?

Walton Heath will play host the final major of the year in 2023.

The world’s best players will travel south of London to contend for one of the most coveted prizes in golf.

It is a new challenge on an inland course with players so used to adjusting their game to the links test in the sole major held in Britain.

Walton Heath has never before been the venue for the AIG Women’s Open and excitement is building ahead of the tournament, which will be held from August 9-13.

The 2022 tournament was held at Muirfield, but the Surrey venue that once hosted the Ryder Cup in 1981 will now play host to one of the most eminent events in the sport.

“We are delighted to be playing the AIG Women’s Open at Walton Heath in 2023,” tournament director Zoe Ridgway said after Walton Heath was announced as the venue.

“As we return to the south-east for the first time in four years our goal is to make the championship as accessible as possible for everyone.

“We are anticipating rising levels of interest and demand to attend the AIG Women’s Open and we have introduced Wednesday practice day tickets to offer fans even more opportunities to watch their favourite players in this world-class major championship.”

Star names set to tee it up at Walton Heath include Nelly Korda, Lydia Ko, Rose Zhang, Minjee Lee and Jin Young Ko.

South African Ashleigh Buhai is the defending champion after a memorable victory on the fourth hole of a sudden-death playoff at Muirfield in 2022.

British hopefuls at Walton Heath will also include Charley Hull and Georgia Hall, who famously won this title at Royal Lytham back in 2018.

Tickets are still available for the AIG Women’s Open, which can be accessed via the tournament website here.
