The California-born golfer is a multiple major champion, but who is Collin Morikawa’s caddie?
Every top player needs a good caddie, and the American certainly has that.
Although, as of May 2025, it is a new caddie that Morikawa has on the bag. It’s the first time he has changed that figure in his professional career.
Previously, his caddie was Jonathan Jakovac, and his experience as a player and caddie propelled Morikawa to the top of the sport.
Having worked together for several years, Morikawa and his caddie struck a winning partnership, claiming two major titles and multiple PGA and DP World Tour titles.
Now, though, he has Joe Greiner on the bag, who formerly worked with Max Homa and won whilst on temporary duties for Justin Thomas.

Who is Collin Morikawa’s caddie ?
The shock change to Morikawa’s backroom team was first revealed by Colt Knost on his SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio show.
“I wasn’t totally sold that this did happen because it’s so shocking to me, but I did just get confirmation,” former pro Knost said.
It came after a frustrating period for Morikawa. Despite contending for several tournaments, he was without a win since 2023.
Later speaking on the Dan on Golf Show, Morikawa said: “Firstly, it doesn’t take anything away from what JJ and I have done over the last six years, but sometimes things just aren’t feeling right.
“I think when people look at it in the macro perspective of ‘OK, Collin’s playing great, he’s contending, he’s trying to close out tournaments’.
“Even at the beginning of the year everything looked very, very good, but sometimes, on the golf course things just don’t feel right.”
So, that feeling culminated in moving on from his former caddie and teaming up with Greiner.
The American has worked with several players in his career, but he was most renowned for his work with Homa.
Long-time friends, the pair had multiple stints together, with the most recent from 2019-2025. In total, Homa and Greiner won six times on the PGA Tour.
Homa revealed that the decision to part ways was his caddie’s.

“It was not my choice so it sucked,” he explained. “But we always had a deal that we’re friends first and friendship mattered more than the work thing, and he was wise enough to do what he did.
“But I was happy that he did it, because I would rather — you know, at the end of my days we continue to be great friends than one of us resent the other for how hard this game can be on a relationship.”
Immediately after leaving Homa, Greiner began working with Thomas, albeit on a temporary basis. And it paid off.
Thomas won the 2025 RBC Heritage with Greiner, which was their second and final tournament together.
Now, Morikawa will hope to lean on his new caddie to end a similarly long winning drought.
His former caddie, Jakovac, was a good player in his own right. Also raised in California, he was a promising golfer, who attended California State University and was one of the country’s best collegiate players.
Jakovac turned pro but was unable to make it through PGA Tour Q-school, so turned to caddying.
At that point, he secured his first job on the bag of Matt Bettencourt, one of his former amateur golf opponents.
He then worked with Ryan Moore, and worked with him for more than seven years.
He was at Moore’s side for the deciding match of the 2016 Ryder Cup, but the pair split at the 2019 PGA Championship.
That experience has helped Morikawa, as he made his Ryder Cup debut in the winning team at Whistling Straits in 2021 before lifting the Presidents Cup the following year.
Through a friend who worked as an agent, Jakovac linked up with Morikawa, who was a hot prospect without a regular caddie. They first worked together at a qualifier for the 2019 US Open.
It proved an inspired decision for the pair to join forces, with multiple wins quickly following – including the 2020 PGA Championship and the 2021 Open.
The second major was particularly special as it fell on Jakovac’s 39th birthday, with Morikawa leading the Royal St George’s crowd in a rendition of Happy Birthday following his win.
