Ludvig Aberg is one of the hottest young prospects in golf – but what is the story behind the man who has taken the game by storm?

Ludvig Aberg became the first player ever to earn his PGA Tour card straight from college after finishing top spot on the American circuit’s inaugural University rankings list.

The 23-year-old Swede won the NCAA D-I National Championship which concluded at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.

And the world No.1 amateur has received his PGA Tour card for two years after it was announced in 2022 that the top player in the PGA Tour University Rankings would be rewarded with a tour exemption.

Aberg has also emulated Masters champion Jon Rahm by becoming only the second player to win back-to-back Ben Hogan awards, a prize given out to the player with the best collegiate, amateur and professional results throughout a season.

But where did it all start for the 23-year-old?

Ludvig Aberg started playing golf at Eslov Golf Club, in the Skane province of Sweden where he grew up.

He represented Sweden throughout his decorated junior career and made the cut on his DP World Tour debut as a teenager in the Nordea Masters in 2018.

A year later, he continued his golfing education by enrolling at Texas Tech University as he began playing college competitions in the United States.

And it was in the collegiate system where Aberg truly honed his skills, establishing himself as the most dominant player on the amateur circuit.

Since winning his first Ben Hogan award last May, he has recorded four victories and claimed another nine finishes in the top-10.

Aberg has experience to take to his full-time membership on the PGA Tour, after finishing an impressive T24 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill in March.

Aberg has taken the professional game by storm since joining the paid ranks in June 2023, winning on his ninth pro start.

The Swede won the Omega European Masters at Crans-sur-Sierre in the Swiss Alps in September in what was the final Ryder Cup qualifying event before the 2023 showdown in Rome.

He compiled four birdies in a row to defeat Englishman Matt Fitzpatrick and claim his maiden DP World Tour title.

And that victory helped him become the first player in Ryder Cup history to play in the biennial battle before a major championship.

Aberg was named as one of one of six Ryder Cup captain’s picks for the 2023 showdown against the USA outside Rome by European skipper Luke Donald.

His selection also made him the most inexperienced player in Ryder Cup history.
