Former Open champion Louis Oosthuizen knows his way around a links course, and new photos showing off his co-designed layout in Mauritius certainly prove it.

La Réserve Golf Links, the Indian Ocean’s first and only contemporary course of its style, opens this December.

With average temperatures to be around 30 degrees Celsius, a trip to one of the world’s most sought-after golf destinations is about to get even better.

• Sotogrande: The ultimate Spanish golf destination

Lining the southern shores of Mauritius, Heritage Golf Club’s distinct natural beauty and panoramic ocean views provide the perfect setting for a pure links challenge.

According to the 2010 Claret jug winner, his ‘passion for playing golf’ has led him to delve into a new passion – designing courses – and Oosthuizen’s experience has paid off.

He said: “La Réserve Golf Links is everything I dreamed it would be – a dramatic, challenging golf course in an extraordinary setting overlooking the Indian Ocean.

“The landscape and environment are second to none, and we’ve worked so hard to create a course that captures the spirit of links golf, the purest form of golf, while using native grasses and sensitive design to ensure it remains authentic to the land around us.”

• Murrayshall: ‘Stay and Play’

In combination with acclaimed architect Peter Matkovich, the championship course is inspired by the great seaside links, and world-renowned golf course photographer, Jacob Sjöman’s shots highlights its splendour.

Elevated tees, infinity greens, and far-reaching views over tropical bays and sandy beaches ensure this astonishing course promises an exhilarating playing experience.

And that won’t just be for those after golf getaways, as the pros are looking forward to facing the test from Louis’ back tees at the end of the year.

Jonathan Menteath, General Manager of Heritage Golf Club, claims those who have been fortunate enough to have a private preview believe it to be ‘among the best new golf courses in
the world’.

He said: “The feedback from the DP World Tour and players who have seen the course, including our resident tournament professional Marcel Siem, has been phenomenal.”

Topflight professionals will have the privilege of competing on these new links at the end of the
year, as the DP World Tour welcomes players to the Indian Ocean for the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius
Open.

Undeniably luxurious, the property still serves as the perfect attraction for guests this winter, with
the option of exclusive villa accommodation or a private suite within Le Château, the 19th-century
plantation house overlooking the golf course.
