If you’re looking for something a little bit different from your average round of golf and clubhouse fare, then you should consider Murrayshall for your next tee time booking, your choice for a memorable overnight stay or even annual club membership.

Why? Because Murrayshall literally has it all when it comes to the perfect environment for enjoying the game and the convivial hospitality that surrounds it.

Offering spectacular views of the picturesque Perthshire landscape, the historic 365-acre country estate is just an hour away from Edinburgh and approximately half an hour from Gleneagles.

Two parkland courses (the Championship and the Lynedoch) have been given a significant facelift in recent times for the benefit of golfers wanting to mix challenging play for the duration of the golfing season with first-class off course facilities.

Up to 40 bedrooms are available in the luxury boutique hotel for ‘play and stays’, and there are two dining options – Eolas Restaurant for a fine dining experience and Cairns for something more casual after a game of golf.

The pro shop and nearby driving range provide ample pre-game services, including a large cart fleet, while a simulator is available for practice or lessons from experienced PGA professionals.

Huge investment has been made in improving course conditioning over the past three years. Many holes and greens have been reconfigured to inspire attacking play.

An effective drainage scheme is being extended to cover both courses, while bunkers that are filled with white sand reflect the look of US-style courses. The rough, meanwhile, is being grown around the greens in a way not seen in this part of the golfing world.

There’s so much more to come to appeal to golfers of all abilities, too.

A new 17-bay teaching and practice driving range is set to open later this year, together with a pro shop double the size of the present one.

“The gents and ladies’ members are really excited at the prospect of the new range and all the other facilities now taking shape,” said head professional Nicola Melville.

Upgrades to the courses continue at pace under the supervision of the seven-man greenkeeping team and the addition of new equipment.

“We’ve seen more changes in the conditioning of the two courses over the past three years than the previous 15,” said head greenkeeper Darrin Urquhart. “These improvements will make it much more enjoyable to play over a longer period for both club members and visitors,” he added.

Corporate and society events come within the remit of golf events manager and keen golfer Emma Lester. “We can cater for companies wanting to take over both courses and the hotel for a short period or small society groups looking to play other top courses in the area too,” she said.

General manager Gary Silcock, a former director of golf at Gleneagles and The Belfry, believes the changes that have been made at Murrayshall have placed the golf club in a great position to attract new members and visitors.

“There are few places of such quality where you’re still able to get a Saturday tee time and enjoy all the other benefits of a traditional Scottish country estate,” he said.
