After a four-season hiatus, the Volvo China Open will make its long-anticipated return to the DP World Tour schedule.

Founded in 1995, it’s the longest running international professional golf tournament in China and now has the highest total prize fund of any golf event in the country.

With a total prize purse of over $2 million, the 29th edition of the Volvo China Open will be the most lucrative and offer the most OWGR points in Chinese mainland.

The event first settled at Shenzhen’s Hidden Grace Golf Club in 2014 and will host for a sixth time on its tenth anniversary.

Whilst a handful of household names like Pablo Larrazabal and Tom McKibbin are entered, the tournament will take shape in a varied manner.

Made up of 156 players, almost 100 of them will be DP World Tour pros. That leaves space for 36 players from the China Tour, as well as qualifiers.

An open qualification round will take place ahead of the tournament, offering 12 final spots into the Volvo China Open.

The bunkered bet

Bernd Weisberger 22/1

The Austrian has made a quietly impressive return to the DP World Tour after his time at LIV Golf. Four top-25 finishes in his first six starts is enough sign that he can contend in a field that lacks real star quality. Weisberger has good memories in China having defeated Tommy Fleetwood in a playoff back in 2017 to win the Shenzen International. An elite ball striker, his chances of winning a ninth DP World title here will largely depend on the performance of his putter.
