Rumours of Costco golf clubs have been taking social media by storm in recent weeks and now the Kirkland Signature driver and irons are here!
Golf’s newest budget hardware became available on December 14 and it seems to have sent many into a frenzy. So much of a frenzy, in fact, that after just a few hours on sale, it was out of stock.
Costco golf clubs
So, what do we know about the Kirkland Signature driver and irons? Well, since they have only been available a short period of time, not a lot, but the website has some key details. Here’s what we know…
Kirkland Signature driver
Why is it so popular? A look at the price tag is enough. The driver is just $199 – that’s about £150! Compare that to the established golf brands, and it’s a bargain.
The Looks
We think it looks pretty tidy. The face is clean, and the carbon crown looks great. We also like the spot on the top of the head to help with alignment. All in all, a solid looking driver.
The headcover, with white and red details, is a great looking addition too.
The Tech
Kirkland look to have gone to town on the technology in this club. They say it features a multi material construction, which includes a carbon composite crown. There’s also a titanium face and titanium sole, with the face featuring variable thickness technology.
Although the driver only comes in one loft setting, 10.5°, it can be adjusted to either a 9.5°, 10.5° draw, or an 11.5° setting.
There’s also a screw in the back of the driver head, which will help with weight distribution.
It comes in one shaft option, the Evenflow Riptide, which is a mid spin/launch design, designed for stability. That comes in either regular or stiff flex.
Kirkland Signature irons
The driver is the second release in under a week from Costco, with the Kirkland Signature irons hitting online shelves at the weekend.
Again, these were only available in the USA, and they sold out quickly.
They feature a seven-piece set, with a four-iron down to a pitching wedge available.
As you might have guessed, these were popular for largely the same reason as the driver. At just $499 – roughly £400 – that’s a steal compared to a full set of irons from a major brand.
The Looks
These look like a classic players’ distance iron. Certainly not a blade, but they’re not far removed from something you’d see in a low single figure to mid handicap players’ bag. Nice and clean looking clubs.
The Tech
They feature a multi-material construction, built with a stainless steel body and built with a urethane insert and an internal tungsten weight. All that, Costco say, is to give these irons distance and forgiveness.
They come in a True Temper Elevate 115 steel shaft and are fitted with a Lamkin Crossline 360 grip. Again, good quality stuff.
These are available in regular and stiff shafts.
Availability
As we’ve mentioned, these sold out very quickly but sets are beginning to appear on eBay – albeit with a much higher asking price than from Costco. We’ve reached out to the company to see if they will be making a return to their warehouses, so watch this space.
