9. Sandy Lyle (1987)
Heading into the 1987 Ryder Cup with a poor record of 4-8-2, two-time major winner Lyle performed in what was the last of five Ryder Cup appearances. Captain Tony Jacklin opted not to play the Scot in the Friday foursomes, but he and Bernhard Langer teamed-up and won the next three sessions as they helped Europe to a five-point advantage going into the final day. He lost to Tom Kite on Sunday but it was, in the end, a comfortable victory. Record: 3-1-0
