The 50-year-old might not seem the most inspired choice, but as one of Zach Johnson’s vice-captains in Rome, Cink could move up the ladder.

The Open champion is a cool figure with an abundance of experience, which could allow him to steady the ship after defeat.

As a player, Cink was a member of five Ryder Cup teams, although he did only win once, in 2008.
