HOLE-IN-ONE CLUB

Scotsman Bryce Kelly stands an excellent chance of winning a once-in-a-lifetime trip to TPC Sawgrass after sinking a hole-in-one at Lochmaben Golf Club.

Mr Kelly, who was playing in the club’s Presidents’ Cup in mid-May, made the ace at the 120-yard eighth hole and, because he signed up to the Hole-In-One Club for just £5, looks set to be US bound.

The Hole-In-One Club offers amateur golfers from the UK and Ireland the chance to win a week’s hospitality at the world famous Sawgrass Marriott Resort for making an ace, with the odds of that to happen said to be 12,500/1.

So far, seven spaces have been filled, and if less than 12 people manage to record a hole-in-one, the prize is guaranteed. Mr Kelly will no doubt have his fingers crossed then as, if more than 12 holes-in-one are scored, a play-off tournament will be held to determine the final winners.

“Never did I expect to get a hole-in-one,” said Mr Kelly. “On the day in question, the pin was in a very awkward position, to which my playing partners agreed.

“Initially, I didn’t believe it had gone in and thought it may merely have disappeared from view. On getting to the green, which is built into the side of a hill and has a steep bank on three sides and a loch to the front and right side, I found my ball nestled in the hole.

“Afterwards, it cost my a bar bill of £120 but I’m pleased to say this tab was picked up by my golf insurance company!”

Mr Kelly was the first Scot to make a hole-in-one through the club. Could you be the second?
