Rory McIlroy begins his 2024 season at the inaugural Dubai Invitational on the DP World Tour.

McIlroy will be joined by a number of his fellow European Ryder Cup heroes, including captain Luke Donald and teammates Tommy Fleetwood and Nicolai Hojgaard in the Middle East.

A 60-strong field will compete to kick of the DP World Tour’s first ‘International Swing’ in the circuit’s expanded 2024 schedule, with the new curtain-raiser preceding the Hero Dubai Desert Classic at Emirates Golf Club.

The 60 players will be joined in the field by 60 amateurs, who will play a concurrent three-day team Pro-Am event, with Sunday featuring only the pros.

The 72-hole stroke play tournament, staged at the impressive Dubai Creek Resort from January 11-14, will be played biennially from 2024 onwards.

“I’m really excited to start my year at the Dubai Invitational,” McIlroy said. “I’ve always enjoyed coming back to Dubai to set up my season and with a pro-am format, this tournament is going to be an enjoyable week.

“Dubai Creek Resort is a fantastic course and given the support we get in Dubai from the fans, I’m sure they are going to make it another great week on the golfing calendar.”

Other notable names in the field in Dubai include Ryan Fox, Adrian Meronk, Francesco Molinari and Rasmus Hojgaard.

Dubai Invitational betting tips

Here’s who the bookies fancy to shine this week…

Rory McIlroy 3/1

Tommy Fleetwood 6/1

Nicolai Hojgaard 11/1

Adrian Meronk 14/1

Rasmus Hojgaard 16/1

Ryan Fox 16/1

The bunkered bet

Rasmus Hojgaard 16/1

McIlroy is an obvious favourite here but his odds are too skinny on his first outing of the season. Rasmus Hojgaard finished last year strongly and will be confident he can secure one of 10 PGA Tour cards available on the DP World Tour in 2024. We expect him to make a meaningful start in Dubai.

Please gamble responsibly.
