After a long and sometimes gruelling season, the top 60 European Tour players will assemble at Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai this week for the season-ending Dubai World Championship.

The culmination of the inaugural Race to Dubai will take place over the Earth Course at Jumeirah, where the biggest names in European golf will battle it out to be named the first Race winner.

Rory McIlory of Northern Ireland, England’s Lee Westwood and Ross Fisher and Martin Kaymer of Germany all stand a chance of taking the coveted title in what is sure to be a thrilling climax to the 2009 season.

With little between them at the top, it is all to play for and current leader Rory McIlroy knows all he needs to do is finish higher than his three competitors to clinch victory – but even that won’t be enough for the 20-year-old.

“I will still be trying to win the Dubai World Championship,” said the world No.13. “I won’t be trying to protect a lead or finish ahead of this guy or that guy. I want to win. If I win it will take care of everything.”
