Golf is a well-known past-time for a host of top footballers, so when four Manchester United players were asked to take part in a FootGolf competition, obviously they weren’t going to say no!
The new, unique sport combining golf and football has rocketed in popularity over the past couple of years and with Premier League stars Jonny Evans, Chris Smalling, Juan Mata and Ander Herrera giving it their seal of approval, participation is only likely to increase.
It was the UK v Spain in this particular match, which was competed in association with one of Manchester United’s sponsors, Swissquote. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Mata and Herrera came out on top, although the winning kick from Mata was slightly on the contentious side, as it came through the assistance of a buggy!
Last year, bunkered went to find out more at Cowal – one of two FootGolf courses in Scotland along with Hilton Park – to see how clubs are taking advantage of the new craze and seeing what its potential could be.
