Gutty
In the 1850s, a new ball arrived on the scene. Made from gutta percha, a sap taken from trees in Asia, it was boiled before being moulded into a ball that flew further and was cheaper than the feathery. The first versions were smooth, but it would later have hammered marks and moulds put into it to help it fly better.
