Six-time Masters champion Jack Nicklaus says he would consider supporting Donald Trump – despite the former Commander in Chief’s legal woes.

Earlier this week, Trump became the first US president to be arrested.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg charged the 45th POTUS with 34 felony counts for falsifying New York business records, and unlawful activity before the 2016 election.

Trump has pleaded not guilty to all charges and, despite his predicament, is believed to be considering running for the presidency again in next year’s elections.

Golf great Nicklaus endorsed Trump in his ultimately unsuccessful bid for re-election at the 2018 presidential election, saying that he had “delivered on his promises” and “worked for the average person,” while being “more diverse than any President I have seen” during his first term in office.

After getting the Masters under way at Augusta National this morning, the ‘Golden Bear’ was asked if he would be publicly backing Trump again next year.

“Depends on who is running, doesn’t it?” laughed Nicklaus. “We’ll have to see what happens. I’ve always supported who I thought was the best candidate. I thought Donald Trump was the last time. Whether Donald will be this time or not, I don’t know. We’ll wait and see.

He added: “I don’t like to brand myself as a Republican. I like to sort of brand myself as being able to think freely, and I voted for a lot of Democrats through the years as well as Republicans, and I tried to pick the person I think would do the best job for our country.

“We’ve got a year and a half to wait for that to see what’s going to happen.”
