Justin Thomas is coming off one of his worst-ever Strokes Gained: Putting performances at the Valspar Championship last week.
But if there was a measurement for Strokes Gained: Unpopular Decisions, the two-time major champion would be the outright leader in that category this week, too.
Thomas, 30, took to social media this afternoon to plug his appearance on The Late Show, hosted by Stephen Colbert.
“Had a great time on @colbertlateshow!” wrote the world No.28. “Check it out tonight, we talk golf and @fullswingnetflix #Colbert.”
Judging by the replies from his followers, however, this particular decision has not gone down well.

One of the most outspoken political commentators in the US, comedian Colbert is a long-time critic of presidential candidate Donald Trump.
As in example, in December, responding to news that Colorado’s supreme court had disqualified Trump from the ballot in the state, he said: “If you try to destroy our democracy, you can’t come back and try again. It’s the same reason I’m not letting my appendix back into my abdomen, no matter how well it polls in Iowa.”
Here’s a flavour of the responses Thomas’ post generated…
“I thought you had strong American values. Guessed wrong.”
“Sometimes you have to pass on an invitation, JT.”
“Wow. Now I really REALLY feel bad @keeganbradley1 wasn’t picked for the Ryder Cup.”
• Charlie Woods endures AJGA debut to forget
• Happy Gilmore sequel reportedly in development
“It’s shameful you’d be on that fool’s show!”
“I can no longer support @justinthomas34”
Not that everybody saw it that way, of course.
One follower replied: “Good for you JT! Unbelievable how many MAGA extremists this is bringing out of the woodwork. People here will find this hard to believe but Colbert actually resonates with a higher majority of the country than those of you who think he is ‘Anti-American’.”
Another added: “This says nothing about his political standing but, more importantly, you guys care way too much about his hypothetical politics. JT seems like a great guy and he also happens to make a living off of golf for being so good at it. That’s what matters.”
