Paul Lawrie has left Callway to rejoin Wilson Golf, the same brand of clubs he used to win the 1999 Open Championship.

The deals sees the 41-year-old playing the latest Wilson Staff FG Tour irons and Tw9 wedges, wearing a branded Wilson cap and carrying a Wilson Staff bag.

Impressed by early results with the clubs which he tested last year, Lawrie decided to make the switch for 2010, which he thinks will help to develop his game.

“I’m delighted to be back playing with Wilson Staff clubs and believe my game will benefit a lot from using them,” he said.

“I really like the feel of the new FG Tour irons which I’ve been playing with since last August and the Tw9 wedges are just outstanding.”

The signing reflects Wilson resurgence as a presence on tour with several European pros, including Anthony Wall, Jose Manuel Lara and US Ryder Cup hopeful Ricky Barnes, signed up as Wilson ambassadors.

It also means they have completed a significant coup in snapping up the last two European major champions  – Lawrie and Padraig Harrington – who will now be promoting the brand world wide.

Commenting on the signing, Doug Wright, Business Director of Wilson Golf in Europe, said: “Having a player of Paul’s ability and standing on the Wilson Golf team is great and it makes it even more special to know that he has so much experience of Wilson products to call on when we look to introduce new Tour-proven equipment onto the market.”
