Bookmaker William Hill has slashed the price of Tiger Woods playing in the Masters.

A surge in bets on the world No.1 to feature at Augusta has seen the odds cut from 4-6 shortly after Woods’ car crash in November to just 1-4 more recently.

William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams says this shows public confidence that he and wife Elin are beginning to work things out.

“We’ve only taken money on the one side that he will be playing there, so that’s why we shortened it right up. Everybody who’s had a bet seems absolutely certain he’ll make it to Augusta,” he said.

“Within the British press there’s a suggestion that Elin has been to see him for a week. Apparently they are getting along quite well, or rather better.”

Despite the fact that he is undergoing a self-imposed break from golf, William Hill has installed Woods as the favourite to win the Masters with Phil Mickelson second.

And, according to Adams, it’s no surprise that the public has put its weight behind seeing Woods return at the first major of the year.

“In terms of security and everything else like that, the Masters is perhaps the perfect place. Not just any old chap can get there. They aren’t the sort who are going to start giving him a bit of the old leg-puling halfway through

“I really can see why everyone’s backing it.”
