At the age of 28, the Irishman made his Ryder Cup debut in the ‘Battle of Brookline’, partnering Miguel Angel Jimenez in both foursomes sessions, halving their opener against Davis Love III and Payne Stewart before losing on the 18th against Tiger Woods and Steve Pate on Saturday. Harrington rallied though and beat Mark O’Meara in his Sunday singles match on the last but it all ended up being rather bittersweet as he was just one of three European victors on the day as the US came back from 10-6 down to win 14.5-13.5.
