Patrick Reed will appeal the rulings that dismissed his defamation lawsuit against various journalists and news outlets, his attorney has said.

Reed, 33, has been ordered by a US federal judge to pay the legal fees against those he has attempted to sue, including the Golf Channel’s Brandel Chamblee, in his $750million lawsuit.

The former Masters champion and his attorney Larry Klayman had alleged that the defendants had committed “conspiracy, defamation, injurious falsehood land tortious interference” when reporting on his move to LIV Golf and rules infringements.

Other defendants in the case included Golfweek columnist Eamon Lynch, Golf Channel broadcaster Damon Hack, Associated Press golf writer Doug Ferguson, and Golf Digest journalist Shane Ryan.

Jacksonville judge Timothy Corrigan ruled: “Reed does not meet the required pleading of actual malice to hold the press liable for defamation.

“While Reed may be frustrated at the negative media coverage he receives (some of which seems over the top), under Florida law and the First Amendment, Reed fails to bring actionable defamation claims and his cases therefore must be dismissed.”

Corrigan also wrote in his ruling on Friday that the defendants “exercised the constitutional right of free speech in their publications about Reed as a public figure.”

And after Reed’s latest setback, his attorney Klayman vowed to appeal, saying in a statement that “these calculated malicious attacks have created hate, aided and abetted a hostile workplace environment, and have caused substantial financial and emotional damage and harm to Mr. Reed and his family.”

Klayman added: “Mr. Reed is confident that all of the prejudiced and unlawful rulings of Judge Corrigan will be reversed on appeal and that justice will be done.

“The dishonest and unethical fake news golf media, in the hip pocket of and dependent on the PGA Tour, must be held to account for their callous and malicious attempts to destroy Mr. Reed, as a means to try to destroy LIV Golf, for clicks and profits. Stay tuned. This fight is far from over!”
