The US Ryder Cup team is beginning to take shape.

Zach Johnson has now learned the six players who have secured automatic qualifying berths to tee it up against the Europeans at Marco Simone next month.

The American captain saw Xander Schauffele and Max Homa confirm their spots after the final qualifying event, the BMW Championship at Olympia Fields.

Schauffele leapfrogged PGA Championship winner Brooks Koepka with a T8 finish on Sunday, while Homa ensured he will be making his debut in the biennial battle after his T5 finish in Chicago.

Homa will also be joined by at least two other debutants as the American team bid to win on European soil for the first time in 30 years.

Wyndham Clark, who finished T15 in the penultimate FedEx Cup Playoff event, is locked in for Rome after emerging as a breakout star this season.

Clark’s victories at the US Open and Wells Fargo Championship made his debut in this dust-up a foregone conclusion.

And the same is true for Brian Harman, who all but confirmed his spot on the US team out of nowhere with his dominant triumph at The Open.

Harman cruised to his first major title at Royal Liverpool and finished in a share for fifth with Homa at the BMW Championship on just his second start since that magical week on the Wirral.

World No.1 Scottie Scheffler was the first player to earn his spot on Johnson’s team and will be making his second Ryder Cup appearance after an impressive first showing.

He finished 2-0-1 at Whistling Straits and notably dominated Jon Rahm with a 4&3 victory in Sunday singles.

Meanwhile, Schauffele and close friend Patrick Cantlay are set to resume their dangerous pairing that has seen them dominate in Ryder Cups and Presidents Cups in recent years.

But Schauffele’s late surge into the team leaves three-time Ryder Cup player Koepka in a precarious position, with the LIV golfer now relying on a call from Johnson to make the team.

Jordan Spieth, Cameron Young, Collin Morikawa, Rickie Fowler, Justin Thomas and Lucas Glover are also all among the players hoping for a wildcard pick.

Johnson names his six captain’s selections on August 29, two days after the season-closing Tour Championship at East Lake.
