The USA extended its horror Ryder Cup run on European soil, after succumbing to a seventh consecutive defeat on the road.

It means that the Americans have still not won outside of the US since overcoming Bernard Gallacher’s side at the Belfry, in England, in 1993.

And they now know whoever steps up will have to overcome Luke Donald, as the Englishman will once again be in charge of Team Europe.

Set to be the first repeat Ryder Cup captain since Gallacher, Donald will be desperate to hand Europe a first win on US soil since 2012.

Although fans will have to wait another two years for the sides to renew their historic rivalry, there could hardly be a better time to be captain, as the Ryder Cup takes place in New York.

So, as the teams head for the Big Apple, who will take over from Zach Johnson in the Team USA hot seat.
