Scottish European Tour player to learn outcome of alleged rules infringment

Elliot Saltman will learn the outcome of alleged cheating allegations against him when the European Tour’s tournament committee meet this week.

The Scot, who gained full tour status at qualifying school, is under investigation after being disqualified at last year’s Russian Challenge.

Saltman was accused by his playing partners of marking his ball incorrectly on several occasions during the Challenge Tour event.

The 28-year-old, who denies any wrongdoing, accepted the charge at the time, saying: “I was in shock and I didn’t want to be labelled a cheat. I am now sorry I didn’t stand up for myself.”

Stuart Davis and Marcus Higley brought the alleged infringements to the attention of rules officials at the end of the round in question. Both will attend the hearing in Abu Dhabi, presided over by committee members Paul Lawrie, Colin Montgomerie, Darren Clarke and Thomas Bjorn among others.

If found guilty, Saltman could face one of a number of possible punishments, the worst being a ban from competitive golf.
