There’s a new groundskeeper in town in St Andrews, as legendary cartoon family The Simpsons have paid a visit to the Home of Golf.
In one of the latest episodes of the American sitcom, Groundskeeper Willie has dragged his Springfield mates across the Atlantic.
And it appears Homer knows his golf.
The show, which premiered in 1989, sees the Simpson family fly to Edinburgh amid fears Scottish character Willie has been kidnapped.
However, in the episode called ‘Ae Bonnie Romance’, they have been tricked into attending the Scotsman’s wedding to a girl named Maisie.

But it’s what Homer says about the famous Fife Links that will capture golf fans’ attention.
After a series of arguments while touring the capital city, Homer and Marge re-kindle their romance at ‘The St. Andrews Golf Club’.
Standing in front of a sign for the golf club – which bears no resemblance to the Old Course – Marge says: “I don’t care if our romance began when we did it on a mini golf course, it’s still epic.”
And Homer is clearly a fan of the landmark, as he replies: “How epic would it be if we did it on the best golf course in the world?”
We didn’t have the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship down as Sunday viewing in the Simpsons household, but Homer is clearly a fan.
He ends the scene by shouting ‘fore’ as golfers tee off in the background.
• What might Tiger Woods’ 2024 calendar look like?
The new episode is the eighth instalment of season five and will air in the United States tomorrow and will be available in the UK in the new year.
Golf has featured in previous episodes of The Simpsons, with Pebble Beach spotted in the 17th episode of season 30.
A picture of Tiger and Earl Woods, with a plaque reading ‘Pebble Beach’, features in one of Homer’s dreams.
Meanwhile, the franchise’s villain Mr. Burns, who is Springfield’s richest and most powerful citizen, is known to play golf at Springfield Glen Country Club.
