LIV golf Tulsa preview

It’s a rapid turnaround for major championship golf in the women’s game, as the condensed summer schedule stops off at the second of the five events.

The United States Open, the oldest major in women’s golf, will head to the famous Pebble Beach Golf Links for the first time.

The course on the Monterey Peninsula has witnessed some of golf’s biggest names lift the grandest of prizes, and Minjee Lee will hope to add her name to that list by defending her title.

There was little movement at the top of the leaderboard on Sunday last year, but the Australian held her nerve to come away with a four-stroke victory at Pine Needles.

Rose Zhang will command attention once again, but as much pressure might be on another 20-year-old, in the name of Ruoning Yin, who claimed last month’s KPMG PGA Championship.

The bunkered bet

Leona Maguire 18/1

After a week off following a disappointing end to the KPMG PGA Championship, Maguire will arrive at Pebble Beach fresh in the hope of being in contention on the big stage once again. Recent results read T11-1-T7, while a tie for 8th in this event last year leaves Maguire well placed to extend her momentum.

Maguire has Dermot Byrne on the bag, and the looper is well-connected with Ken Conboy, Graeme McDowell’s caddie, so the 28-year-old might be able to lean on some help from McDowell’s winning experience at the 2010 US Open, also held at Pebble Beach.

Please gamble responsibly.
