We’ve all heard the names. TPC Sawgrass and TPC Scottsdale are two of the most iconic golf courses on the PGA Tour.
But what does a TPC golf course actually mean? Let us explain…
What is a TPC golf course?
TPC stands for Tournament Players Club and is a chain of private golf courses which are operated the PGA Tour.
The network of private courses are specifically designed to accommodate big crowds at high-profile tournaments and are owned by the PGA Tour.
TPC Sawgrass is the most famous Tournament Players Club course and hosts The Players Championship – the flagship event on the PGA Tour.

TPC Sawgrass, which opened in 1980, is also where the headquarters of the US circuit is based in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.
TPC Scottsdale in Arizona is another venue operated by the PGA Tour, which hosts the Waste Management Phoenix Open.
There are 32 courses in the TPC network, which all have the TPC title in their name, making them easily identifiable as courses designed to stage tournaments by the PGA Tour.
Most of these courses are in the United States and have frequently hosted events on the Korn Ferry Tour and the PGA Tour Champions.
The sole TPC course in Mexico is TPC Danzante Bay, which is located in the city of Loreto.
The 2020 PGA Championship was the first major championship held at a TPC course – TPC Harding Park in San Fransisco.
TPC Harding Park had previously staged two World Golf Championships and the Presidents Cup in 2009. Collin Morikawa won that tournament, which took place with no fans due to the pandemic.
Notable TPC golf courses include:
TPC Sawgrass
TPC Scottsdale
TPC Harding Park
TPC Las Vegas
TPC Tampa Bay
TPC Myrtle Beach
TPC Southwind
TPC Summerlin
