He has established himself as one of the world’s top golfers with a swing many want to replicate, but who is Max Homa’s coach?

Max Homa started working with a new swing coach in October 2024.

John Scott Rattan, the director of instruction at Congressional, started working with Homa on his swing after the ZOZO Championship, according to the PGA Tour’s Sean Martin.

Homa was previously working with popular swing coach Mark Blackburn, who has also worked with Justin Rose.

“The priority has been covering the golf ball,” Homa said ahead of the 2025 season. “My chest just gets late and the club gets stuck behind me and I end up playing a lot of golf with my hands.

“We’ve been working on getting my chest to keep going, to never slow down. It helps my cut, but it’s the best I’ve ever drawn the golf ball, as well.”

Homa was advised to call Rattan, who also works with tour players Stewart Cink and Beau Hossler.

It marked a new start for the American Ryder Cup player, whose successful stint with Blackburn ended before the 2024 Presidents Cup.

“It’s unfortunate, I love Mark,” Homa said after the split. “He’s basically a part of my family. He’s just been an amazing human being.

“But at times, the communication gets hard. I think everyone in here has gone through that at some point.

“It’s one of those things, more for me, I need a break and sometimes I don’t do a great job of taking ownership of my own golf swing, so putting the ball in my court a bit, and trying to figure it out myself.

“I mean, as much as a coach can be brilliant, a genius like Mark, I know my golf swing better than anybody, and I can see it and feel it. Just trying to take some ownership like that.”

Now, Homa will take a new direction.
