PGA Tour star Max Homa has established himself as one of the world’s top golfers with a swing many want to replicate, but who is his coach?
The man in charge of Homa’s action is Mark Blackburn, a well-known figure off the course to other world-class players as well.
Golf Channel named him the ‘hottest coach on tour in 2023’, and that tag is in large part due to the success he has had with several tour players.
• Who is the caddie of Max Homa?
In 2023, Blackburn has claimed PGA Tour titles with Davis Riley, Justin Rose, and Max Homa while working as the star golfers’ coach.
Mark Blackburn has developed his winning teaching techniques at the Blackburn Golf Academy, his own facility at Greystone Golf and Country Club in Birmingham, Alabama.
The UK-born expat has made the states his home after embarking on a highly fruitful career as a coach and was named the PGA of America’s Teacher of the Year in 2020.

Max Homa’s coach saw his playing career cut short by injury in 1999 at just 24 years old, so turned to teaching full-time, an opportunity he has seized.
Mark Blackburn has also coached Kevin Chappel, Chez Reavie, and 2003 Masters champion Mike Weir.
Since joining forces with Max Homa, the pair have worked together to transform the PGA Tour winners’ game into one that can compete at the highest level.
It also appears that Blackburn’s presence has elevated Homa’s mindset on the course, a vital cog in developing another world-class golfer.

When the coach was asked what makes Homa special when he’s in contention, Blackburn said: “He runs cold.
“He may have some anxiety on the inside, but when he gets in contention, he’s like a serial killer. He gets a sniff of it but doesn’t get rattled. He’s extremely comfortable.
“The hardest part is getting into that position, of course. But once he’s there, he knows what to do. That’s a superpower.”
