On-the-door ticket prices for the 2014 Open Championship at Royal Liverpool have been held from last year’s tournament at Muirfield, organisers have confirmed.

Speaking to bunkered.co.uk at Hoylake yesterday, a spokesperson for the R&A revealed that adult tickets for each of the four championship days – bought after June 1 – will cost £75. Bought before that day, they will cost £65.

Concessions, aged 16 to 21, will need to pay £30 to see the action unfold (£25 if bought before June 1), with children under 16 years of age being admitted free of charge.

Adult tickets on practice days start from as little as £10, with advance-purchase season tickets costing £220. You can view a full breakdown of prices here.

Organisers are expecting in the region of 200,000 fans to attend the Open this year over the course of the week. Over 230,000 people watched the tournament the last time it visited Hoylake, in 2006, a record attendance for the championship in England. Tiger Woods won the tournament on that occasion, which saw the Open return to Royal Liverpool for the first time in 39 years.

On-course seating is already being erected around the course and will include a horseshoe amphitheatre-style grandstand surrounding the 18th green. This ‘arena’, as organisers are calling it, will be a relative first for the Open and will account for a large proportion of the 20,000 seats for spectators.

The course this year will play little over 50 yards longer than it did in 2006.

As in 2006, the configuration of the course will be adjusted, so that the first hole, as the members’ know it, will become the third hole of the championship. The members’ 17th will become the tournament’s first.

The course this year will play little over 50 yards longer than it did in 2006, with ten holes, in fact, playing shorter than they did eight years ago. The most significant changes are on the seventh and 16th holes, which have been lengthened by 27 and 23 yards respectively.

The first 17 holes will also feature electronic scoreboards, up from four on the course at Muirfield last year, with the 18th retaining its iconic yellow leaderboard.

Organisers of the 2014 Open Championship have also revealed details of changes made to the official app of the championship. Available on all smartphone platforms, the R&A has spent a six-figure sum developing this mobile software so that fans can keep-up-to-date with live television coverage of the tournament no matter where they are on the course.

This year’s Open Championship takes place at Royal Liverpool Golf Club from July 17-20.
