Tiger Woods revealed he is desperate to play again in 2016 but admits that he just doesn’t know whether he will be fit enough to do so.

The 40-year-old, who hasn’t played competitively since the Wyndham Championship last August, is still rooted to the sidelines after undergoing two back surgeries in September and October last year.

And, speaking at the Quicken Loans National yesterday, the PGA Tour event hosted by his foundation, Woods was asked by CBS presenter Jim Nantz what his outlook was looking ahead to the rest of the year and beyond.

“I don’t know; I want to play,” said Tiger Woods. “Put it that way, I want to play – but I don’t know if I will. But I do want to, and I’m trying. Each and every day I’m doing my workouts, sometimes two or three times a day. I’m working my tail off.”

Wyndham Championship - Final Round

Woods told the broadcaster that he’s lost body fat but is still the same weight, also adding that he’s faster. However, he says he still has work to do.

“I still need to get into golf shape, and that’s just hitting ball after ball after ball after ball,” he added.

An imminent return for Tiger Woods had looked hopeful a couple of months ago after he was seen hitting 300-yard drives at a Junior event in South Carolina. However, talk was hushed two weeks later after he was filmed dunking three consecutive 100-yard chip shots into water.

Prior to the tournament, Woods said he still hasn’t played for four-five days in a row and also hasn’t played 36 holes in a day and, until then, he won’t be returning to action. So still plenty work for the 14-time major winner to do.
