Callaway Chrome Tour golf balls review

Callaway Chrome Soft has been hugely popular amongst the tour pros and the everyday golfer. Callaway now has a new look in its golf balls, with three new options. There’s the Chrome Tour, Chrome Tour X and the Chrome Soft. Let’s take a closer look.

The First Look

The new range has a new look and it starts with the packaging. The new Chrome Tour comes in gold-coloured packaging. That’s to go along with the Chrome Tour X in black and gold. What you also see is a crisp white finish to the golf ball, new font size and a different dimple pattern. They certainly look like a premium ball.

The Tech

Each ball is going to give you something slightly different but all the three will have the same focus on speed, flight and control. Across the whole range, you have a new Hyper Fast soft core for more speed. Each ball will also have a new seamless tour aero pattern, designed to match the aerodynamics and launch properties of each ball.

The balls will not only feature hexagonal dimples but standard round dimples as well, to deliver more stability through the air and to maximise distance. The cover is a high-performance urethane cover, which delivers more spin around the greens and tighter dispersion for consistency across all shots.

The Chrome Tour is going to be popular with elite players It’s aimed at the better player looking for a softer feel, penetrating ball flight, while keeping spin low. It’s also going to very fast off the driver.

The Chrome Tour X is going to be the faster and longer ball, with higher spin around the greens. It’s firmer in feel but higher in spin, giving the player plenty of greenside control.

The Chrome Soft is designed for the player looking for a tour quality ball which is going to be higher launching for more distance. It’s longer in comparison to the previous Chrome Soft, which is only a good thing.

The bunkered Verdict

The biggest standout in my testing of these balls was not only speed, but aerodynamics.

Across the board the golf balls are aerodynamically more stable and hold their line, helping you to hit straighter shots.

The speeds are seriously impressive. In the Chrome Soft X, I found the ball was being 5mph faster than the previous model while hitting drivers. A huge difference for anyone, that could really make a difference in your game.

I also like the lower launching flight in the Chrome Tour, which has a very soft feel. Again, very fast speeds and it feels great around the greens and soft off the putter face. The acoustics and feel are perfect for what each ball is designed to do.

Longer, faster, better aerodynamics and loads of control. These balls are going to be winners in 2024.
