Ram FXT Players Distance Irons review

If you’re looking for an iron that delivers forgiveness and distance in a very affordable package, then these irons could be for you.

Ram is looking to build on the success of their FX77 iron, which was really forgiving and easy to hit. The new Ram FXT offers the same distance with even more forgiveness.

The First Look

For a player’s distance iron, it has a great look. It has a nice chrome muscle back design which looks great in the bag and at first glance. The top line is a bit thicker than other player’s distances with a toe weight that makes the club head more stable, while helping the looks too. At address, there is quite a bit of offset, but the hollow body design does look very appealing.

The Tech

With more forgiveness than the FX77 irons, the FXT has more tech to deliver a great performing player’s distance iron.

This is Ram’s latest and greatest iron set, pumped full of latest tech in a clean, aesthetically pleasing muscle back head shape. This head is made from dual material construction, engineered from a 431 stainless steel body with a 17-4 that produces great sound, feel and gives you super-fast speeds of the face. The muscle back design does through a special heat-treatment which delivers a forged-like effect, which contributes to fast ball speeds and more forgiveness Centre of gravity in the club head is placed lower, giving you more stability and forgiveness on those off-centre strikes. A Toe side screw weight helps raise MOI and reduce the impact of twisting on off-centre ball strikes. So you can expect straighter on those mishits.

The bunkered Verdict

I really enjoyed Rams previous FX77 iron as it was forgiving and easy to hit, the new RAM FXT irons are just as forgiving and easy to it.

Now what I will say is the top line and offset of these irons are bit larger in comparison to other players distance irons, however the performance is brilliant. The ball speeds are fast, and distances are great. The lofts are slightly stronger, but you will still launch it easily getting great speeds and distance.

The forgiveness is noticeable especially on mishits. I hit a number off the heel and found it was very forgiving and stable showing that MOI is very good. Now we can’t forget about the price point. Now what I did like was how easy it was to hit bump and run with a  7 iron. It just pops off the face and is really easy to judge the pace and distance, perfect for just off teh green and links golf.

A brand-new set of irons this side of £400 is great value for the tech that these iron possess. If you’re mid to high handicapper these irons are a great option if you are price conscious and want more forgiveness in your irons.
