It's no secret that Ping make great irons for golfers of all abilities - whether it's a game improvement iron, a players' distance iron, or a cavity-back iron that offers more control and workability. There really is something for everyone. So we put the three headline acts in Ping's 2024 range - the G430, the i230, and the brand new Blueprint S - up against each other to see which Ping irons are best for you.

But before we get to our full conclusion, let's meet the contenders...

A game improvement iron that doesn't look like a game improvement iron? Sign us up.

PROS

  • Incredibly easy to get the ball in the air
  • Packed with technology usually reserved for a better players' iron
  • Great looks and feel

CONS

  • Not as good looking as other Ping irons
Available from £839 from Ping

With stronger lofts, the G430 is not only a forgiving iron but a long one too.

They are designed with a very low centre of gravity, which makes it much easier to get the ball in the air.

The PurFlex badge on the rear of the head supports the ultra thin face at the point of impact to ensure shots stay straight without sacrificing speed, while the seven flex zones on the face ensure mishits still perform.

I love these irons because, while they are a game-improvement iron, they don't look like a game-improvement iron, and that will suit a lot of high-handicap golfers.

Perfect if you want performance without sacrificing forgiveness.

PROS

  • A players' distance iron which is ultra forgiving
  • Superb looks and feel

CONS

  • Golfers tend to want an iron that suits them rather than an all-rounder
Available from £999 from Ping

What do you get if you cross a players' distance iron with a game-improvement iron? Why, it's the Ping i230.

Firstly, the i230 is very easy on the eye, with a clean shape and that classic hydropearl finish.

Then you get to the feel, which is incredibly crisp, while dampeners ensure a nice acoustic at strike.

For what is a mid-to-low-handicap iron, the forgiveness levels are remarkable. No matter where I hit it on the face, I was still producing the kind of numbers I want to see in terms of distance and ball speeds.

These irons are great for a player who struggles with their ball striking

PROS

  • Incredible workability
  • Much more forgiving than its predecessor
  • Precision-milled grooves for perfect launch and spin

CONS

  • They look so good that high-handicappers will be tempted, but they should look elsewhere
Available for £200 per iron from Ping

It didn't take many hits to realise why the Blueprint irons have gone straight into the bags of Ping staffers out on tour.

They are really easy to shape the ball with and they glide through the turf like it's not even there.

From a distance and control perspective, I was impressed with the consistency, and with the 'precision pocket' adding forgiveness, they Blueprint irons are easier to hit than ever.

A genuine contender for the best iron of 2024 - and one that low-handicap golfers must try when they're in the market for a new set.
